ISM student Xuke Zhang dreamed of studying business in Europe back in high school. In the blog interview, he told us how his bachelor studies at ISM prepared him for the German labour market.

Why did you choose to study international management at ISM Frankfurt?

At the beginning when I chose to come to Germany, I was actually attracted by the reputation of the German manufacturing industry and planned to study engineering. However, later on, after realizing that my interest was more focused on the business field, I started to look for a suitable school after finishing high school. As one of the most prestigious business schools in Germany, ISM met my expectations very well, so I chose to apply to ISM and was lucky enough to be accepted.

Why did you choose Frankfurt as a place to study?

When I was in high school, I planned to come to Europe to study a business-related major, and studying in Frankfurt, the centre of finance and trade, was a good choice. ISM is the best business school in the whole of Frankfurt, and there are many job and internship opportunities.

What do you like the most about your study program?

ISM has provided me with a wealth of learning resources and internship opportunities. Here, I not only gained quality education, but also got to know many excellent teachers and classmates. At the same time, ISM organizes many meaningful activities and seminars, which allow me to gain a deeper understanding of the latest developments in the field of business and finance. Overall, I think it is a very wise choice to study at ISM.

What were the biggest challenges for you to study in Germany?

Massive reading! The amount of reading in the courses is very large, and each course has a Reading Task to be completed before class, as well as recommended reading. Then in order to write a paper you have to read a variety of related articles, a course may have to read eleven or twelve papers just for the academic paper, it's really reading every day. If you don't have a strong interest in what you're learning, it's really hard to keep going.

What are your future plans after having completed your bachelor?

I plan to look for local job opportunities in Germany first after graduation.

What are your tips for other students from abroad?

There are a lot of job adverts in German, but if you read them carefully, you will find that the job description states that you only need English to fulfill the requirements. So when searching for a job, don't skip over the job description if it is written in German, as you will miss out on a lot of opportunities.
